A quick update from me. I have just upgraded to WordPress 2.0.5 - Ronan. On the other hand, I found the solution which can fix the YouTube video’s offset issue. The recent redesign of YouTube interface offset the videos, on my blog, to the right within the ExtremeVideo plug-in container. I tried to find out the solution from their web site but failed. I finally found the solution from here:
I got an invitation email from The Google Team two days ago. It said:
Welcome to our beta test!
Thanks for helping us test Gmail for your domain! We’re excited to help you offer Gmail accounts with your domain.
…
I was so excited. I applied for this beta several months ago. I didn’t have any expectation at all. But suddenly I was told that I was in and I could host all my 9527.net mailboxes on Gmail.
Gmail for your domain lets you give Gmail to every user at your domain. This service is hosted by Google so there is no need to install any hardware and software to host mailboxes for your domain. That is, you no longer need your own mail server but Gmail provides you everything to host mailboxes for your domain.
Gmail for your domain is basically the same as the standard Gmail. However, there are some differences (as far as I have observed):
You can use your own domain address instead of @gmail.com address
The size of each Gmail for your domain mailbox is 2GB only, not the same as a Gmail account (2.7GB now, but is still growing)
You can login Google Talk using your own email address
You can create new mailboxes thru a very nice control panel
You can customize your own logo to replace the original Gmail and Google Calendar logo
No Gmail account invitation will be given
No Gmail / Google Talk personal picture can be set
I am happy with it. If you want to apply for this service, please visit http://www.google.com/hosted/. If you want to have a @9527.net mailbox, please feel free to let me know. (Note: for my family, friends and Vorsichtians only)
9527.net now has a new look. I feel boring with the standard WordPress theme. So I changed it last night and I added some new features as well. Here you go the details:
Installed the K2 theme (Beta Two svn r343r345): It is an open-source template for WordPress. It is powerful and beautiful. I’m lovin’ it!
Added a header image: I don’t like the default navy blue header of K2 so I use a very nice Mac OS X wallpaper as the header image.
Installed the Brian’s Latest Comments plug-in: It is a plug-in for WordPress to show latest comments as asides.
AJAX support from K2: AJAX commenting, AJAX rolling archive, Livesearch, etc.
Installed Extended Live Archives (0.10beta R16): It is good but it has issues with my previous permalink structure (e.g. ../archives/53). Now permalink structure has been changed (e.g. ../archives/2006/05/01/53/) in order to “by-pass” the problem.
Enjoy!
Note: Now my site is no longer IE friendly. It will work but you will see something abnormal. Please use Firefox or Safari (Mac OS X) for better performance.
I am back! I was so busy in the last few weeks and had no time to update my blog. Here you go the summary of the things happened in the last few weeks:
My iMac G5 (Rev. B) was fixed. The on-site technician replaced the motherboard and the power supply. My iMac worked again. Then I sold it to my friend and got a new iMac G5 (iSight).
Joined the Vorsicht SMD on 2nd April morning. It was fun. Over 20 cars joined the event. SMD will become a monthly activity of Vorsicht. The next SMD will be in May. Stay tuned.
Just upgraded my blog to WordPress 2.0.2. This release has some security fixes. For details, please visit here.
I will do my best to update my blog as frequent as I can. Thanks for visting my site.
You can now specify an upload directory, and whether to use date-based storage or not.
Caching has been fixed under certain PHP enviroments.
Permalinks have been fixed for weird enviroments as well.
XML-RPC uploading works.
Compatibility with older versions of PHP.
Several WYSIWYG fixes and cleanups.
Imports now use much less memory.
Now works with MySQL 5.0 in strict mode.
On the other hand, I have activated the Akismet Plug-in which comes with WordPress 2.0/2.0.1. It can stop comment spam and trackback spam. I’ve got many spam comments recently and Akismet will definitely help filtering them out.
I think I need some multimedia functions in my blog. So, now, I have the Audio Player WordPress Plug-in (by 1 Pixel Out) installed. This plug-in allows me to insert MP3 files in Flash form into my posts and pages.
Here you go an example:
Click the > button to play the audio
Click the || button to pause the audio
Enjoy.
Updates: I found that the current version of this plug-in was not able to display Chinese ID3 tags from the MP3 files. I have informed Martin (the author) already. He promised that he would consider adding full character set support into future releases. Thanks Martin.
