Free Wireless Internet Access in Singapore

StarHub, a mobile/fixed-line operator in Singapore, is now offering its wireless broadband service free of charge to all its mobile/cellular phone roaming customers across Singapore. If you travel to Singapore with your Wi-Fi enabled computer, you can connect to the Internet wirelessly for free at StarHub hotspots located islandwide in Singapore.

Step One

The first step you have to do is to select StarHub network on your mobile/cellular phone:

  1. Go to Settings in your mobile phone’s menu
  2. Select phone settings
  3. Select network settings and choose Manual
  4. A list of network names will be displayed on the screen. Select STARHUB or SGP 05.
  5. A message will confirm that StarHub has been selected as your desired network. StarHub will be displayed on your mobile phone’s display screen.

Step Two

Then you will need to get your username and password to login:

  1. On your mobile phone, key in *WIFI or *9434 (not 9394 …) and dial.
  2. You will hear a voice announcement. The call will then hang up.
  3. An SMS containing the password will reach you in a short while.

Step Three

Now, you can use that password to login and start surfing the Internet:

  1. Turn on your computer and enable Wi-Fi
  2. In Windows XP, view the Available Wireless Networks list
  3. Select ACCESS-StarHub and click the Connect button to connect to StarHub Wireless Broadband service
  4. Start your browser, and your browser will automatically go to this web page.
  5. In the “Step 1: Select Your Service Provider” section of the web page, select Mobile/Cellular Phone Roaming Customers. A small window will pop-up. You can close that window.
  6. In the “Step 2: Login Here” section, enter the user ID, which is your mobile phone number (e.g. 852XXXXXXXX if you are from Hong Kong), followed by the password which you received in the SMS

Congratulations. You can start surfing the Internet now.

Note: I don’t work for StarHub. I am a frequent traveler to Singapore. I just want to share this useful information with you. Of course, you have your rights to choose the roaming operator that you want.

Went to the Wrong Slope

Grand HIRAFU

Today is the last day to ski for this trip. We went to Niseko Grand Hirafu for skiing. I was with Terry (one of our teammates of this trip) for the whole day. At the very beginning we would like to try the Holiday course which is supposed to be a very easy one. Unfortunately, we took the wrong lift (No Name Pair) and went to the wrong slope (Jambo course). The maximum gradient of this slope is 37°! This is the very first time I experience this kind of gradient. I am still ok with that but this slope is too difficult for Terry. He had to ski very slowly and took about 20 mins to finish that slope. Luckily, we were able to head back to the mountain foot without the help from the rescue patrols. ;)

Terry, sorry that I took you to the wrong slope. I appologize for my mistake. :(

My Birthday!

Today is my birthday. I got a very nice birthday gift, which is a key holder, from my girlfriend. It can hold all my keys and even my car key altogether. I love it so much. Thanks honey. :D

As usual, we are spending my birthday and the Chinese New Year holidays (8 days) in Hokkaido (Japan) for skiing. I don’t really like skiing but it is not bad to go with my girlfriend and do something that she wants. I had 5 days of “intensive ski training” last year so skiing is not really that difficult for me this year anymore. I tried some of the red slopes in Furano in these 2 days and I was able to manage them easily without getting myself injured. However, my speed is still very slow when compares to my girlfriend. She skis very fast and is like a rocket. 8O

No matter I will go skiing again or not but if this is what my girlfriend wants to do then I will go with her again.
